The American House Apartments is a six-story building built in 1895. It is located in St. Paul’s historic Lowertown district and is on the National Historic Register.

Work was completed in phases to allow the building to remain occupied. Interior work included upgrading fixtures and finishes at common toilet and shower rooms, upgrading fixtures and finishes at common kitchens, and upgrading common laundry areas. Corridor floor finishes were replaced, and all door hardware was upgraded for each unit.

Other work included updating the elevator to meet code, correcting underground sewer problems, replacing toilet room ventilation equipment, and upgrading the existing ventilation and air conditioning. Corridor, stair, and dwelling unit lighting was updated, as was the security camera system.

The project received financing from the MHFA.
